Description

This module aims to equip students who already have high level language skills in both Chinese and English with the knowledge and skills needed to become effective translators from English into Chinese, with additional awareness of the issues involved in translating out of Chinese into English. Through a combination of lectures and practical seminars, students will be exposed to a wide variety of texts (i.e. academic, business, journalistic, legal, scientific and literary), theories (e.g. pragmatics, discourse and register analysis) and techniques (e.g. annotation, use of dictionaries, online resources etc.) to help them achieve this aim.
